China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television) has revealed results of the second-round tender for CMMB (China Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting) terminal devices, according to a report by Interfax China. 33 companies including Lenovo, ZTE, Hisense, and Beijing Tianyu Communication Equipment have emerged winners among the 120 participants entered in the tender floated by Chinese CMMB service operator CSMB (China Satellite Mobile Broadcasting Corporation). According to the Interfax report, Samsung, LG, and UTStarcom were the only three international companies to have obtained portions of the tender.

Previously the number of CMMB terminal devices to be procured in the second-round tender was estimated at around one million units. However, as the SARFT did not reveal the exact number along with the list of winners, it is expected that the actual figure will eventually exceed one million units. CMMB terminal devices to be procured come in thirteen types, including mobile phones, MP4 players, GPS (Global Positioning System) devices, PMP (Portable Media Player), and USB (Universal Serial Bus) and SD (Secure Digital) dongles.

CSMB also stated that the tender winners will have to obtain SARFT's quality certification prior to signing equipment supply contracts. At present the SARFT has begun CMMB network deployment in more than 300 cities, with a total of 1.2 million CMMB terminal devices circulating in China.
